Bill Gates dismissed Google as a competitor for business applications earlier this week. He said: “In terms of Google, not to overstate it, but they really don’t understand the special needs of business.”

Mr Gates may not have meant to sound so complacent. However, given that I’ve recently stopped using Microsoft in the office and the rest of the Telegraph may soon follow, I can say that Google understand my needs pretty well. And from a business perspective they’re better than Microsoft in one key area: cost.
