One of Nicholas Negroponte’s laptops for third-world children passed through the office this week, so I nabbed it to see if it can live up to its long-drawn-out promise.

I was a little disappointed by the quality of the Asus Eee, the XO’s main competitor. It felt cheap and flimsy, the screen was washed and out there were surprisingly long pauses between click and action.
