All Donations to UK charities sent via text message ( SMS ) will be free of VAT
from this week as part of an agreement with the major mobile phone
operators.

This a really a good move in UK. In Pakistan mobile phones operators are also collecting donations for different causes but PTA / Govt is still adding VAT on these donations. I can not understand why there should be a tax on charities and money for a good cause. The Zardri Govt. should look into this and should abolish the VAT on donations made via SMS
